Bitkom survey reveals teachers using AI for grading in Germany
A representative survey by the digital association Bitkom indicates that artificial intelligence is increasingly integrated into German secondary schools. According to the study, which surveyed 501 teachers, 58 percent of educators use AI for school-related purposes, and one in five uses it to monitor tasks and exams.
A significant finding of the report is that 7 percent of teachers use AI for grading and do not personally verify the results. This lack of oversight raises concerns regarding the accuracy and accountability of student evaluations.
The survey also highlights a gap in institutional guidance; only 57 percent of teachers reported having clear guidelines for AI use at their schools. Additionally, 51 percent of respondents expressed feeling overwhelmed by the technology. Bitkom President Ralf Wintergerst has called for the implementation of clear, actionable rules to manage the integration of AI into the classroom.
