AI integration and public perception in Germany

Overview

Recent data from the digital association Bitkom highlights the expanding role of artificial intelligence across different sectors of German society.

In the public sector, a survey indicates growing acceptance, with 70 percent of citizens supporting AI use in public administration for processing applications. While support has increased from 63 percent the previous year, most respondents still demand human oversight. Only 12 percent of citizens trust AI to handle both the review and the final decision entirely.

In the education sector, a survey of 501 teachers reveals that 58 percent use AI for school-related purposes, including monitoring tasks and exams. Notably, 7 percent of teachers use AI for grading without personal verification of the results. The findings also point to institutional challenges, as 51 percent of teachers feel overwhelmed by the technology and only 57 percent report having clear guidelines for its use in schools.
