Bitlis conducts emergency response drill at 8 Ağustos Tunnel

An emergency response drill was conducted at the 8 Ağustos Tunnel in Bitlis to enhance intervention capabilities and inter-agency coordination in the event of traffic accidents. Coordinated by AFAD, the exercise simulated a traffic accident involving trapped victims and potential gas leaks.

Emergency teams, including 112 Emergency Health, fire departments, and volunteers, responded to the simulated scene to perform rescue operations, provide first aid, and transport victims to hospitals via ambulance. The drill tested rapid deployment, tunnel security protocols, and the efficiency of medical transfer processes.

Participants included Bitlis Deputy Governor Adnan Ayte, Bitlis Deputy Mayor Necmi Menteş, AFAD Provincial Director Kerem Oruk, and students from the Bitlis Eren University Emergency and Disaster Management Department. Officials noted that such regular exercises are vital for reducing response times and improving life-saving outcomes in enclosed spaces like tunnels.
