Bitcoin and XRP ETFs see surge in institutional inflows

US-listed cryptocurrency ETFs are experiencing a significant resurgence in institutional demand. Spot Bitcoin ETFs have recorded seven consecutive days of net inflows as of August 25, with total August inflows reaching approximately $3.03 billion. BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) continues to dominate the market, accounting for the vast majority of daily inflows.

Large investors are increasingly utilizing ‘in-kind’ conversion processes rather than selling assets for cash. This method allows holders to swap physical Bitcoin directly for ETF shares, reducing tax events and simplifying custody. BlackRock has lowered the minimum threshold for these conversions from $25 million to $1 million, facilitating broader institutional participation. This trend is also expanding to include Ethereum and Solana ETFs.

Similarly, spot XRP ETFs have seen a major breakthrough, with cumulative net inflows surpassing $1.56 billion as of August 24. The Bitwise XRP ETF has notably experienced high trading volumes, exceeding $200 million across three consecutive sessions. Spot Ethereum ETFs have also maintained a strong momentum, recording seven consecutive days of net inflows.
