Béja, Tunisia: Heavy rainfall causes significant road damage

Heavy rainfall and violent weather caused significant damage to road infrastructure in the Béja governorate of Tunisia on Friday. The most intense precipitation was recorded in Thibar and Teboursouk, where rainfall reached 30 mm in a very short period.

Emergency interventions by the Civil Protection and regional disaster management teams were required to clear regional road No. 75, which was paralyzed by water accumulation, as well as the Djebba-Thibar axis. In the city of Béja, the downpours damaged the road network, specifically affecting construction sites and Habib Bourguiba Avenue.

Rescue operations included pumping water from a health facility and clearing fallen trees from roadways. Other areas affected by varying levels of rainfall included Oued Zarga, Oued El Bssim, Aïn El Chems, Bir El Hofra, and Tahar Haddad.
