BJP accuses Telangana Congress of neglecting paddy procurement amid farmer protests
On May 25‑26, BJP leaders in Telangana, headed by state party president N. Ramchander Rao, toured crop procurement centres in Vikarabad, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri and other districts as part of a “Rythu Gosa – BJP Bharosa” yatra. They said large piles of paddy and other crops lay unharvested, with farmers waiting 15‑30 days without adequate gunny bags or transport.
The BJP claimed the Congress‑led state government had failed to meet its own procurement targets, accusing it of a cover‑up after the leaders’ visit. State Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy responded that the government had already purchased 51 lakh tonnes of paddy, paid Rs 45,000 crore to farmers, and provided over 21 crore gunny bags, denying any shortage.
BJP representatives demanded that the administration procure “the last grain” and warned of consequences if the promised purchases under the Warangal Declaration were not completed before the monsoon.
