BJP demands statement over poacher encounter deaths in Chamarajanagar
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded a formal statement from the Karnataka government regarding the deaths of three poachers during an encounter in the Chamarajanagar district reserve forest. During a session in the Legislative Assembly, BJP leaders alleged that the incident involved “murders in the name of an encounter.”
Leader of the Opposition, R. Ashoka, stated that the circumstances of the operation have caused shock across the state and prompted questions from the families of the deceased and local farmers. BJP MLA V. Sunil Kumar criticized the government for failing to issue a suo motu statement within 24 hours of the incident, calling on Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar and Forest Minister Ramalinga Reddy to provide an explanation.
In response, Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara suggested that the Opposition should follow proper procedure by submitting a notice before raising the matter. The Speaker, G. S. Patil, intervened to suggest proceeding with the scheduled Question Hour.
