BJP launches 10-day padayatra in Karnataka against Congress government

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a 170-km ‘Ballari Chalo’ padayatra in Karnataka, beginning in Lingasugur and scheduled to conclude in Ballari on September 10. Led by BJP State President B. Y. Vijayendra, the 10-day march aims to protest against the ruling Congress government, which the BJP characterizes as corrupt and “anti-people, anti-Dalit and anti-development.”

During the launch, Vijayendra cited the resignation of former minister B. Nagendra—linked to allegations of fund misappropriation within the Mahareswari Valmiki Development Corporation—as a significant political victory. He warned Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar that the party’s campaign would continue long after the march ends, predicting that another “big” minister could resign within the next few months.

Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka further intensified the pressure, alleging irregularities in the KPSC recruitment process and suggesting that Home Minister Priyank Kharge could be the next official to face calls for resignation. The inaugural event saw high-level participation from senior BJP leaders, including former Chief Ministers B. S. Yediyurappa, Jagadish Shettar, and Basavaraj Bommai.
