BJP launches anti-drug yatra in Punjab to combat narcotics
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is conducting the ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’, a 13-day anti-drug campaign covering nearly 4,000 kilometers across all 117 constituencies in Punjab. The initiative aims to transform the fight against narcotics into a mass public movement to protect the state's youth.
Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have pledged to free the state from drugs. Meghwal criticized the current law and order situation, alleging that narcotics are being peddled in public spaces like schools and hospitals, and claimed that corrupt elements have caused a deterioration in policing.
Despite the involvement of high-profile leaders, including scheduled appearances by Amit Shah, reports suggest the campaign has struggled to generate the spontaneous public participation the party anticipated. While the yatra has seen significant organizational support from the BJP, the ground response has remained largely dependent on the party's own network rather than broad-based public mobilization.
