BJP launches anti-drug campaign in Punjab amid political row

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched the ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’, a multi-day anti-drug campaign spanning approximately 4,000 kilometers across Punjab’s 117 assembly constituencies. The initiative aims to raise awareness about drug abuse, disrupt trafficking networks, and promote rehabilitation. Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is scheduled to participate in the final stages of the campaign, which includes visits to Talwandi Sabo and Bathinda.

The campaign has triggered intense political friction between the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal criticized the BJP’s focus, stating that the fight against narcotics should begin at Gujarat’s Mundra Port rather than in Punjab, suggesting that the BJP should focus on stopping drugs entering the country through such ports.

Meanwhile, BJP leaders have accused the AAP-led state government of failing to curb the drug menace, alleging that narcotics are reaching citizens through ‘home delivery’ methods. The campaign is set to conclude in Jalandhar on September 30.
