India Opposition INDIA Bloc Meets in Delhi, Sets Five-Point Strategy

Leaders of the opposition INDIA bloc gathered at the Constitution Club in New Delhi. Twenty‑three to twenty‑five parties were represented, including Congress (Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi), Trinamool Congress (Mamata Banerjee, Abhishek Banerjee), Samajwadi Party (Akhilesh Yadav), RJD (Tejashwi Yadav), National Conference (Omar Abdullah), Shiv Sena (UBT) (Uddhav Thackeray, virtual), CPI(M) (John Brittas) and several regional parties. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) did not attend.

The bloc agreed on five key decisions: (1) send a letter to the Chief Justice of India demanding scrutiny of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls; (2) demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over NEET and CBSE paper‑leak controversies; (3) call for an immediate all‑party meeting on the worsening economic situation, unemployment and inflation; (4) institutionalise coordination meetings every two months, with the next scheduled in Hyderabad in August; and (5) intensify a unified campaign against the BJP‑led NDA government on issues such as delimitation, electoral reforms and farmer concerns. The meeting also highlighted internal friction, notably the DMK’s boycott and accusations from Left parties, but the leadership stressed a “spirit of unity” to present a coherent alternative ahead of upcoming state elections and the 2029 Lok Sabha polls.
