Tripura CM announces BJP-led alliance for upcoming Village Committee polls

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has announced that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will contest the upcoming Village Committee elections under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) in alliance with the TIPRA Motha Party and the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT). The elections for 587 Village Committees are scheduled for September 28.

Addressing public meetings, Saha criticized the Congress-CPI(M) alliance, accusing the opposition of lacking political knowledge and attempting to create a ‘divide-and-rule’ situation. He expressed confidence that the NDA alliance would secure victory in the local body elections.

In contrast, former Chief Minister and CPI(M) leader Manik Sarkar has alleged that workers from the BJP, IPFT, and TIPRA Motha are intimidating CPI(M) candidates. Sarkar claimed that some prospective candidates were pressured or threatened with eviction and arson to force them to withdraw their nominations before the deadline.
