NDA victory in Tripura leads to welfare and recruitment news

Overview

Following the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) securing over 90% of seats in the Village Committee elections, Chief Minister Manik Saha characterized the results as a mandate for his ‘New Tripura’ vision and a rejection of CPI(M) and Congress ideologies.

In response to the victory, the Tripura Cabinet approved several welfare and administrative measures. These include a 3% hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) for government employees and Dearness Relief (DR) for pensioners, raising the total to 44%. Additionally, the House Rent Allowance (HRA) will increase to 10% of basic pay, capped at Rs 10,000 per month. These adjustments, effective October 1, are estimated to cost approximately Rs 300 crore annually.

The government also announced significant recruitment drives, including 1,061 teacher positions and 213 vacancies within the Agartala Municipal Corporation. To improve transparency, a Staff Selection Commission will be established for Group-B, C, and D posts. Furthermore, the state will provide free ration supplies, such as sugar, maida, and suji, to approximately 9.92 lakh families for the upcoming Sharadotsav festival.
