BJP and BSP announce solo bids for 2027 Punjab elections
Major Indian political parties have announced their strategies for the upcoming 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, both opting to contest without alliances.
BJP National General Secretary BL Santosh announced that the Bharatiya Janata Party will contest all 117 assembly seats in Punjab independently. This decision effectively ends speculation regarding a potential alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). During a two-day organizational tour involving zonal meetings in cities like Patiala and Bathinda, Santosh stated the party is “prepared for change” and aims to form the next state government.
Simultaneously, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati confirmed that the BSP will also contest the Punjab elections alone. She extended this solo strategy to the upcoming elections in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, noting that electoral alliances often lead to losses in both seats and vote share. Mayawati emphasized the importance of fielding “hardworking and honest” candidates to represent Ambedkarite policies and counter the influence of the Aam Aadmi Party, Congress, and BJP.
