On August 24, 2026, the BJP’s strategy appeared to solidify as BL Santosh announced the party would contest all 117 assembly seats independently, stating the party is “prepared for change”. Concurrently, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati confirmed her party would also contest the Punjab elections alone, arguing that alliances often result in losses of seats and vote share.

However, by August 25, reports emerged of ongoing negotiations regarding a potential alliance between the BJP and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). Disagreements persist over seat sharing, with the BJP reportedly seeking approximately 55 seats while the SAD advocates for 45. The BJP has indicated it may revert to contesting all 117 seats independently if a respectful agreement is not reached.
