BJP wins 38 of 44 seats in Gandhinagar municipal elections
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a dominant victory in the Gujarat local body elections, retaining control of the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC) by winning 38 of the 44 available seats. The party also maintained its power in the Thara and Okha municipalities.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) suffered a significant setback in Gandhinagar, failing to win any seats and seeing its vote share drop from 21.77% in 2021 to 4.37%. Meanwhile, the Indian National Congress improved its performance in the GMC, increasing its seat count from two to five.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the results, describing them as a “resounding victory” for the BJP. He also noted the party's performance in other regions, including Rajasthan and Tripura, while criticizing the track records of the Congress and AAP.
