BJP worker Samir Ghosh murdered in West Bengal's Malda district

A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker, identified as Samir Ghosh, was killed in the Ramkeli area of Malda district, West Bengal, on Wednesday night. According to state police, a group of attackers first hacked Ghosh with sharp weapons before shooting him at close range to ensure his death.

The incident occurred during the Vijaya Dashami celebrations while local residents were occupied with idol immersion. Ghosh's family alleges that he had been receiving threats due to his political affiliation and was targeted while alone at home. They have accused local miscreants associated with the Trinamool Congress of responsibility, though Trinamool Congress leadership has denied these allegations.

Police have detained one individual for questioning as investigations into the motive and the identities of the perpetrators continue. The killing has caused acute tension in the minority-dominated district.
