Political violence against BJP members in West Bengal
Overview
A series of fatal attacks targeting Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members has been reported in West Bengal. In late September, BJP Mandal President Chandan Bhalla was shot at close range by two assailants while on his motorcycle in the Bolpur area of Birbhum district. His family raised suspicions of intra-party rivalry following the incident.
In October, BJP worker Samir Ghosh was killed in the Malda district. Attackers reportedly used sharp weapons and firearms to kill Ghosh during Vijaya Dashami celebrations.
