Black bear chases woman on trail in Langley

A woman was chased by a black bear while walking on the Muench Trail near Derby Reach Regional Park in Langley on August 20. According to reports, the individual yelled at the bear and ran, which resulted in the bear chasing her. The woman reached her home safely.

The B.C. Conservation Officer Service (BCCOS) confirmed they received the report via the RCMP. Officers have spoken with the individual and stated they will continue to monitor bear activity in the area to ensure public safety.

Authorities remind residents that British Columbia is ‘bear country’ and that black bears can be found in both wilderness areas and suburban outskirts. Safety precautions include traveling in groups, leashing pets, and remaining calm during encounters by backing away slowly without making direct eye contact.
