Bear attack investigation in Montana

Overview

Authorities in Montana are investigating a bear attack that occurred on August 31 near Columbia Falls. The incident took place around 7 p.m. on the Cedar Flats trail complex while a woman was walking her dog.

The victim sustained significant injuries and was transported to Logan Health Medical Center. While the specific species of the bear has not been identified, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks and the U.S. Forest Service are leading the investigation.

Officials used a thermal infrared drone to search for the animal but were unable to locate it. As a precautionary measure, Forest Service officials have closed the area to the public.
