Black bread festival to feature 72 ovens across Italy, Switzerland, and France
The twelfth edition of the transborder festival ‘Lo Pan Ner-I Pani delle Alpi’ will take place on October 17 and 18. The event features 72 ovens across 52 municipalities spanning Italy, Switzerland, and France.
In Italy, the celebration includes the Valle d'Aosta region and several provinces in Lombardy, such as Bergamo, Brescia, Sondrio, and Varese, as well as communities in Piedmont. The Swiss involvement extends to the Poschiavo area and Tarasp in the Canton of Graubünden, as well as parts of the Canton of Valais. The French participation includes the Parc naturel régional du massif des Bauges in Savoie.
According to regional official Erik Lavevaz, the festival is a vital initiative for the growth of the cereal sector. It aims to promote increased cultivation areas by highlighting the value of local products and celebrating traditional baking as an intangible cultural heritage.
