Ghana youth football teams prepare for World Cup and WAFU qualifiers

Ghana’s national youth football teams are entering critical competitive phases. The Black Princesses are preparing for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland, where they are drawn in a group with Ecuador, South Korea, and France. Head coach Charles Sampson expressed confidence and determination ahead of their opening match against Ecuador, noting that the squad is focused on securing a vital win to advance beyond the group stage.

The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has issued a message of encouragement to the Black Princesses, highlighting their achievement in qualifying for eight consecutive editions of the tournament. The ministry emphasized the team's role as ambassadors for female football in Ghana.

Simultaneously, the Black Starlets have named a 29-man squad for the upcoming WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship in Burkina Faso. Coach Kasim Ocansey Mingle’s squad, composed of players born in 2010, is aiming to reach the tournament final, which is the requirement to qualify for the 2027 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations.
