Increased drone and armed attacks on commercial vessels in the Black Sea have severely disrupted maritime trade and threatened the Turkish shipping sector. According to İMEAK Chamber of Shipping, approximately 22 Turkish-owned civil vessels, including three flying the Turkish flag, have been targeted by UAVs in the last two months.

The security crisis has forced roughly 100 ships to seek refuge in ports and anchorage areas, including 35 vessels in Samsun and 22 in Sinop. This congestion and the risk of attacks have caused significant economic damage, particularly for exporters of fresh vegetables and citrus fruits, who face potential product spoilage and rising insurance costs.

Industry leaders from the Trabzon Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TTSO) and the East Black Sea Exporters Association (DKİB) report that exports have reached a near standstill. In response, Turkish officials are engaging in international discussions with the United Nations to establish a legal framework for navigation safety, which may include a partial ceasefire to protect energy and port infrastructure.
