Bled–Bohinj bike route inaugurated in Slovenia

A new 20‑km cycling corridor linking the Alpine lakes of Bled and Bohinj was officially opened in July 2026. The route, which together with existing paths creates an almost 28‑km continuous bike trail, runs largely separate from motor traffic along the Sava Bohinjka river and through the Soteska valley.

The project, costing about €25 million, was financed by the Republic of Slovenia, the European Regional Development Fund and the municipalities of Bled and Bohinj. It includes two new rest areas, a smart bike station at Lake Bled and provisions for future infrastructure. While the main segment is open, the section between Bohinj Bela and Obrne remains closed for landslide repairs until 31 August 2026, with a marked detour on the regional road.

The connection is presented as a step toward safer, more sustainable mobility, enhancing daily commuting options for locals and offering a scenic recreational route for tourists.
