Blended Scotch producers seek to revitalize declining U.S. market
Blended Scotch whisky producers are attempting to redefine the category to combat declining sales volumes, particularly among younger consumers in the United States. Data from Impact Databank indicates that nine of the top ten brands in the U.S. experienced declines last year, with some seeing double-digit drops in 2025.
Industry experts suggest that while the quality of Scotch remains high, the category has lost cultural relevance. Professionals in the hospitality sector note that consumers are no longer satisfied with the industry’s traditional focus on prestige and reputation; instead, they are looking for reasons to engage with the spirit through innovation, terroir, and new consumption occasions.
To drive growth, marketers are shifting focus from asking consumers to admire the product to inviting them to enjoy it, aiming to earn a place on the table through curiosity and accessibility rather than relying solely on historical standing.
