Overwatch reveals new Support hero Doctrine and character reworks
At BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard Entertainment announced Doctrine, a new vampire-inspired Support hero for Overwatch, scheduled to arrive in Season 5 this October. Doctrine features a sci-fi aesthetic using cybernetics and bioengineering rather than traditional supernatural elements. His kit includes a staff capable of both healing and dealing damage, mechanical drones that provide healing and attack speed buffs, and a mobility ability called ‘Shrouded Momentum’ that offers damage reduction.
Doctrine’s lore connects him to Doomfist and the Talon faction. His gameplay mechanics are described as a hybrid of existing heroes like Ana, Zenyatta, and Moira, featuring a unique ‘Infuse’ ability that alters his combat capabilities.
In addition to the new hero, Blizzard announced significant reworks for existing characters: Sombra will transition from a Damage role to a Support role, and Roadhog will receive updates to make his kit less frustrating for opponents. The upcoming update will also introduce a new Escort map, Watchpoint: Grímsvötn, set in Iceland.
