Overwatch game updates and character announcements
Overview
During BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard Entertainment announced several updates for Overwatch, most notably the introduction of Doctrine, a new vampire-inspired Support hero. Doctrine, the 54th hero in the roster, utilizes a sci-fi aesthetic involving cybernetics and bioengineering and features a narrative connection to the Talon faction and Doomfist.
Developers also addressed the franchise’s identity, with art director Dion Rogers confirming that Tracer remains “still the mascot for Overwatch. Very much.”
Further gameplay changes include significant reworks for existing characters: Sombra will transition from a Damage role to a Support role, and Roadhog will receive updates to improve balance. Additionally, a new Escort map titled Watchpoint: Grímsvötn, located in Iceland, is scheduled for release.
