Blood donation initiatives launched in Senegal and France

In Senegal, Rotary clubs have partnered with the National Blood Transfusion Center (CNTS) to organize blood drives to combat rising deaths caused by blood shortages in healthcare facilities. Senegal currently records approximately 7.33 donations per 1,000 inhabitants, falling short of the World Health Organization's recommendation of 9 to 10 per 1,000. The country requires an additional 50,000 to 55,000 donations annually to meet its needs, which are critical for treating maternal and infant mortality, traffic accidents, oncology, dialysis, and complications from Rift Valley fever.

In France, the Fédération des Chefs d’Alsace is organizing a series of culinary events to support blood donation efforts. These initiatives aim to bolster reserves as donor attendance declines, noting that blood transfusions and plasma-derived medicines are vital for treating millions of patients annually.
