Blue Devils Weiden head coach Dave Matsos sidelined for medical reasons

The Blue Devils Weiden ice hockey club has clarified the absence of head coach Dave Matsos during recent preseason games. Club president Stephan Seeger Sr. stated that Matsos has been unable to join the team due to medical reasons.

Shortly after arriving in Germany, Matsos underwent unexpected surgery to treat an acute medical issue. Following the procedure, doctors recommended further treatment to address both the original problem and additional health concerns. Matsos is currently under medical supervision.

Due to the ongoing nature of the treatment and required examinations, the club noted it may take several weeks before a reliable assessment of his return can be made. The organization declined to provide a specific timeline to avoid speculation and emphasized its commitment to respecting Matsos’s medical privacy.

In the interim, assistant coach Mikhail Nemirovsky will lead the team for the upcoming DEL2 season, which begins this Friday.
