Blue Energy and GE Vernova Hitachi advance Texas hybrid power plant

Blue Energy and GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH) have signed an agreement to advance the development of a 2.5 GW hybrid power plant in Victoria, Texas. The deal initiates the next phase of the project, focusing on engineering design, licensing, and safety analysis.

The facility is designed to combine GE Vernova’s 7HA.02 gas turbines with GEH’s BWRX-300 small modular reactors (SMRs). The project aims to address rising electricity demand driven by AI workloads and advanced manufacturing. The hybrid model intends to provide immediate power through gas turbines while integrating carbon-free baseload generation via SMRs as they are completed.

A final investment decision for the project is targeted for 2027.
