Blue Nile state displacement reaches nearly 100,000 amid Sudan fighting
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported that nearly 100,000 people have been displaced in Sudan’s Blue Nile state between January 11 and August 23, 2026. The estimated figure of 99,277 individuals, comprising 19,497 families, represents a 66% increase from the previous update recorded in May 2026.
Approximately 47% of the displaced population are children under the age of 18. The movement of people is attributed to escalating military confrontations between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), alongside the RSF’s ally, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North.
Displaced populations have moved to seven locations within the state. Damazin has received the largest number of arrivals at 45,740 people, followed by Geissan with 15,735. Regarding shelter, 58% of the displaced are staying in informal gathering sites, 33% are in schools or public buildings, and 9% are residing with host families.
