BlueNewables installs 1 MW marine solar demonstrator in Valencia

BlueNewables has completed the installation of Spain’s first pre-commercial marine floating solar energy demonstrator at the Port of Valencia. Supported by Naturgy, the 1 MW system consists of two 500 kW PV-bos platforms named ‘Paiporta’ and ‘Catarroja’. These units were constructed at the San Enrique shipyard in Vigo.

The project is now entering a testing and monitoring phase to evaluate performance, technical behavior, and maintenance requirements under real maritime operating conditions. The modular and scalable PV-bos technology is designed to utilize sea surfaces for solar generation in areas where land availability is limited or expensive, such as ports, island systems, and coastal infrastructures.

This initiative is part of the RENMARINAS VALENCIAPORT project, funded by the IDAE with NextGeneration EU funds. Over the next two years, BlueNewables and Naturgy will exchange technical and economic data to analyze the solution's potential. The Port of Valencia provides a dedicated testing zone to connect, test, and feed electricity produced by such demonstrators into the grid.
