Blumenau flood prevention works delayed by one year
Flood prevention projects in Blumenau, including river desilting and the construction of an overflow channel, have not yet commenced despite being announced one year ago. The program, launched in partnership with the state government, involves an investment of R$ 12 million, with R$ 8.4 million sourced from the state and R$ 3.6 million from the municipality.
The city administration attributes the delay to the need for technical studies and project revisions. Following a March 2026 requirement from the State Court of Accounts (TCE-SC) to ensure proven effectiveness in flood prevention, the municipality is currently drafting a bidding notice to select a company for these technical studies. Once studies are complete, environmental licenses must still be obtained before execution can begin.
