BMKG issues high wave and tidal flood warnings across Indonesia

The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued multiple maritime and coastal warnings for various regions across Indonesia effective August 8–11, 2026.

In Maluku, moderate waves reaching 1.25 to 2.5 meters are expected across 12 water areas. In Bengkulu, the agency warned of extremely high waves of up to 6 meters in the Enggano Island waters and the Indian Ocean west of Bengkulu, posing risks to large vessels. Additionally, Nusa Tenggara Barat (NTB) faces waves of 4 to 6 meters in the southern Lombok Strait and Indian Ocean areas, driven by Australian monsoon activity.

Furthermore, the coastal areas of Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT)—including the coasts of Flores-Alor, Sabu Raijua, Sumba, and Timor-Rote—are under alert for potential tidal flooding (rob). This phenomenon is attributed to the perigee phase on August 10 and the new moon phase on August 13, which are expected to increase sea levels to maximum heights.
