BMKG issues wave warnings for Bengkulu and South Kalimantan coasts

Indonesia's meteorological agency, BMKG, issued an early warning for wave heights of 1.25‑2.5 m in the waters of Bengkulu province from 02 August to 05 August 2026. The alert covers the northern and southern coastal zones, the Enggano Island area and the western Indian Ocean off Bengkulu. BMKG warned that wind speeds of 2‑25 knots could raise wave heights, posing risks to small fishing boats and larger vessels. The provincial disaster agency (BPBD) urged fishermen and maritime operators to monitor weather updates and postpone sea activities if conditions become unsafe.

A separate BMKG warning, effective from 03 August 2026, highlighted a similar wave risk of up to 2.5 m in South Kalimantan waters, especially around Tanah Laut and Kotabaru. Station chief Utari Randiana advised that wind speeds of up to 15 km/h could affect ferries, cargo ships and fishing boats. Local authorities called on all sea‑going users to stay alert and follow the latest forecasts.
