Indonesia BMKG wave warnings

In mid‑July 2026 Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued a wave warning for the Maluku archipelago and the southern Lombok Strait as Tropical Cyclone Haishen moved north of Papua. The agency forecast moderate waves of 1.25‑2.5 m across 21 sea areas and warned that small fishing boats, tongkangs, ferries and larger ships faced heightened risk at specific wave‑height thresholds.

A month later, in early August 2026, BMKG released additional warnings for the coasts of Bengkulu and South Kalimantan. Expected wave heights of 1.25‑2.5 m were linked to wind speeds of up to 25 knots, prompting local disaster agencies to advise fishermen and maritime operators to monitor updates and suspend sea activities if conditions deteriorated. The August alerts similarly highlighted risks to small and larger vessels, extending the pattern of seasonal wave advisories across Indonesia’s western and southern maritime zones.
