BMKG warns of colder nights and fog in Central Java ahead of August 2026 dry‑season peak

Indonesia's meteorological agency, BMKG, says that several districts in Central Java – chiefly Cilacap and its environs – have entered the dry season. Residents are experiencing unusually cold temperatures at night and in the early morning, while daytime heat intensifies due to reduced cloud cover.

BMKG recorded a minimum temperature of about 24 °C at the Cilacap station on 19 June 2026, a value still within normal climatological ranges. Higher‑elevation areas such as western Cilacap and Banyumas feel cooler than coastal zones. The agency also notes that fog may develop during the cooler pre‑dawn hours but will dissipate after sunrise.

Officials advise the public to prepare for typical dry‑season impacts, including possible water shortages, increased fire risk, and discomfort for individuals sensitive to cold. The warnings target the period leading up to the expected peak of the dry season in August 2026.
