BMW declines contract options for WorldSBK riders Danilo Petrucci and Miguel Oliveira
BMW has chosen not to exercise contract options on its WorldSBK riders Danilo Petrucci and Miguel Oliveira, leaving both riders' futures uncertain ahead of the summer break. The German manufacturer said it will continue to monitor Petrucci’s adaptation to the M 1000 RR, with Alberto Vergani noting, “The fact that BMW has not exercised the option for Danilo does not mean the rider is out of the picture.”
Petrucci, who struggled in the early 2026 season and missed several rounds after a crash, said he is “not satisfied” with his results and hopes to improve after testing at Donington. Oliveira’s situation hinges on his recovery from a severe crash at Balaton, with reports that BMW is considering a new two‑year contract with an optional third year.
The decisions come as the WorldSBK rider market prepares for intensified negotiations over the summer.
