BMW driver Rene Rast faces setbacks at 6 Hours of Fuji

BMW driver Rene Rast faced significant challenges during the 6 Hours of Fuji in the WEC Hypercar class. Due to heavy rain causing the cancellation of the qualifying session, the starting grid was determined by combined free practice times. BMW admitted a strategic error by opting not to perform qualifying simulations during Friday's practice sessions, which resulted in the No. 20 M Hybrid V8, driven by Rast, Robin Frijns, and Sheldon van der Linde, starting in 17th and last position.

During the race, Rast attempted a recovery, climbing seven positions to 10th within the first hour. However, the team suffered further setbacks when the car experienced a tire failure approximately two hours into the race, necessitating an unplanned pit stop that cost over a minute. Despite these difficulties, Rast noted that the car's race pace appeared acceptable.
