WEC 6 Hours of Fuji race challenges
Overview
The 6 Hours of Fuji in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) was marked by heavy rain and changing weather conditions, which led to the cancellation of the qualifying session. As a result, starting grids were determined by practice times.
BMW M Team WRT managed a recovery to secure a third-place podium finish in the Hypercar class. Despite starting 14th and losing a lap due to contact with another vehicle, the driver lineup of Kevin Magnussen, Dries Vanthoor, and Raffaele Marciello utilized pit lane strategy and safety car periods to climb the field. Dries Vanthoor briefly held second place late in the race before being overtaken by an Alpine, finishing behind the winning Toyota and the Alpine. This result leaves BMW in second place in the constructors' championship with 146 points.
Conversely, the AF Corse Ferrari team struggled throughout the race. The No. 83 Ferrari, driven by Robert Kubica and Yifei Ye, started from twelfth. Following a multi-car collision in the LMGT3 class and subsequent restarts, the team was unable to compete for points. Although Kubica recorded competitive lap times, the car finished well outside the scoring range.
