BMW expands X5 lineup with electric models and China-exclusive long-wheelbase versions
BMW is expanding the availability and technical diversity of its X5 SUV lineup. In China, the company has introduced the X5 L and the all-electric iX5 L, which feature an extended wheelbase of 3,165 mm—surpassing the dimensions of the larger X7. These China-specific models include upgraded interior amenities such as new seating and an 8K-supported folding entertainment screen for rear passengers. They also utilize Momenta's AI driving technology, which does not include LiDAR sensors.
Globally, the fifth-generation X5 is entering production in Spartanburg, USA. The lineup is notable for offering five different powertrain options: gasoline, diesel, plug-in hybrid, fully electric, and a future hydrogen fuel cell version. The electric iX5 60 xDrive is scheduled to begin production in Spartanburg this December, featuring an 800-volt architecture and a battery capacity of 144 kWh. In the US market, prices for the X5 range from approximately $69,800 to $77,500, while the electric iX5 is expected to start at $79,800.
