BMW iX3 sets European fast‑charging record; iX5 unveiled with 800km range

In a test at the 400 kW PRE charging station in Prague, the new BMW iX3 (Neue Klasse) reached a peak charging power of 379 kW, delivering a 10 % to 80 % charge in about 21 minutes and setting the firm’s European fast‑charging record. The SUV’s 108.7 kWh cell‑to‑pack battery architecture and 800 V system enabled the high power draw, while the vehicle’s thermal management kept the battery within optimal temperature limits.

BMW simultaneously announced the fifth‑generation X5, now offered with a fully electric iX5 variant. The iX5 60 xDrive uses a 141‑144 kWh battery pack, produces 425 kW and 805 Nm, and claims a WLTP range exceeding 800 km. It can accelerate from 0‑100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. The new X5 line also includes conventional petrol, diesel, and plug‑in hybrid models, and BMW mentioned a future hydrogen‑powered iX5. Exterior styling follows the Neue Klasse design language, and interior upgrades feature a new digital cockpit and optional passenger display.
