BMW unveils new X5 generation and launches fully electric iX5 SUV
BMW announced the fifth generation of its X5 SUV, now extended to 4.99 metres and featuring a refreshed exterior with larger panels, integrated door‑handles and a panoramic vision display. The lineup includes conventional gasoline and diesel models, plug‑in hybrids and, for the first time, a fully electric version named iX5. The iX5 60 xDrive is powered by a 141 kWh battery that BMW claims delivers up to 845 km (WLTP) of range and supports charging at up to 460 kW, filling 80 % in about 23 minutes. Power outputs range from 313 PS for the diesel X5 40d to 578 PS for the iX5, with the performance hybrid M60e exceeding 600 PS. Prices start around €95,000 for the base X5 40d and €103,000 for the iX5, with the top model priced near €125,000. Conventional models will enter production in late November 2026, while the plug‑in hybrids and iX5 are slated for March 2027. Separate spy‑shot images of the upcoming X5 G65, expected to enter production around 2028, suggest a future generation that may also offer an all‑electric variant, indicating BMW’s ongoing commitment to expand its electric SUV portfolio.
