BMW launches i5 Long Wheelbase electric sedan in India

BMW Group India has officially launched the BMW i5 Long Wheelbase (LWB) in the Indian market. This model marks the company’s first locally produced electric sedan, which is being assembled at the BMW Group Plant in Chennai.

The i5 eDrive35L M Sport is priced starting at INR 79,60,000 (ex-showroom). An exclusive ‘First Edition’ limited to 99 units was also introduced at the same price point and sold out prior to the official launch.

Technical specifications include an 81.6 kWh battery providing a claimed range of up to 669 km on the MIDC cycle. The vehicle supports 160 kW DC fast charging, allowing a 10-80% charge in approximately 33 minutes. The electric motor produces 268 hp and 410 Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h acceleration in 6.7 seconds.

Designed for luxury and space, the LWB version features a 3,105 mm wheelbase, making it one of the largest in its segment. Interior highlights include a vegan leather cabin, a BMW Curved Display with a 14.9-inch control screen, a Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof, and a Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system.
