BMW M 1000 RS sport-tourer appears in US regulatory filings

Regulatory filings in the United States suggest that BMW is developing a new sport-tourer motorcycle, the M 1000 RS, for the 2027 model year. The model name appeared in documentation from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Air Resources Board (CARB).

While BMW has not officially announced the vehicle, the filings indicate the M 1000 RS will likely share the 999 cc inline four-cylinder engine used in the M 1000 RR superbike. This could result in an estimated power output of approximately 205 hp and 113 Nm of torque.

Technical details from the documents suggest the new model may feature a different tank design and could weigh roughly 10 kg more than its superbike counterpart. Unlike other M-series models that are derived from existing S-series platforms, there is currently no S 1000 RS base model listed, leaving the specific architecture of the M 1000 RS unconfirmed.
