BMW M Team WRT secures podium at FIA WEC 6 Hours of Fuji
BMW M Team WRT secured a third-place podium finish in the Hypercar class at the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) 6 Hours of Fuji. The driver lineup of Kevin Magnussen, Dries Vanthoor, and Raffaele Marciello overcame a difficult start to the weekend to climb the field.
Due to the cancellation of Saturday's qualifying session because of poor weather, the team was forced to start from 14th position on the grid. Despite contact with another vehicle that resulted in the loss of a lap, the team utilized effective pit lane strategy and safety car periods to move into contention. Dries Vanthoor briefly held second place late in the race before being overtaken by an Alpine, ultimately finishing behind the winning Toyota and the Alpine.
In the championship standings, BMW currently holds second place in the constructors' championship with 146 points, trailing Toyota's 169 points. Kevin Magnussen remains in the hunt for the drivers' title, currently sitting in sixth place with 54 points.
