BMW unveils Concept 7 Protection armored luxury sedan
BMW has unveiled the Concept 7 Protection, an armored luxury sedan designed to provide discreet ballistic security without the heavy appearance of traditional armored vehicles. Based on the M760e xDrive plug-in hybrid, the concept features a 3.0-liter inline-six engine paired with an electric motor, producing a combined 603 horsepower.
The vehicle is engineered to meet the new BayB standard, specifically targeting handgun-related threats such as 9x19mm and .44 Magnum rounds. Unlike the higher-tier VR9 or VPAM 10 protection models, this concept focuses on street-level risks like robberies or traffic altercations while remaining lighter and more agile.
To maintain a standard appearance, BMW integrated the protection into the vehicle's structure. This includes thicker bullet-resistant glass, ballistic steel and fiber-reinforced composites built into the doors, and protective layers beneath the panoramic glass roof. The design aims to preserve the 7 Series' luxury aesthetic and driving dynamics. While currently a concept, BMW indicated it could serve as a potential expansion of its Protection portfolio for private and corporate clients in select markets.
