BMW unveils Concept 7 Protection armored sedan
BMW has unveiled the Concept 7 Protection, a study based on the Series 7 sedan designed to provide certified security with a focus on discretion and luxury. Positioned below the high-level protection offered by the BMW X5 Protection VR6 and Series 7 Protection VR9, this concept targets a different risk profile, such as private individuals, corporations, or organizations facing situational threats like common street crime or road aggression.
The vehicle adheres to the new BayB security standard, specifically engineered to protect occupants from common short-caliber ammunition, including 9x19 mm and .44 Magnum. The protective structure integrates ballistic steel and fiber-reinforced composite materials into the doors, partitions, and bodywork. Additionally, the concept features thickened bulletproof glass and a continuous protective layer hidden beneath the panoramic glass roof.
To maintain the driving dynamics of a standard Series 7, BMW has recalibrated the chassis, brakes, propulsion, and driver assistance systems to account for the added weight of the protective components. The concept utilizes the plug-in hybrid technology from the M760e xDrive, combining a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor. Onboard features include an intercom for external communication without opening windows and an alarm system with visual and acoustic signals.
