BMW launches China‑exclusive long‑wheelbase X5 and iX5

BMW announced a long‑wheelbase version of its X5 SUV, designated internally as G78, that will be sold only in the Chinese market. The wheelbase is extended by 130 mm, giving the vehicle an overall length of 3,165 mm. The rear cabin features a 31.3‑inch 8K BMW Theatre Screen that supports video calls, streaming and gaming. Both the X5 LWB and the fully electric iX5 LWB will come with standard adaptive air suspension and a new front‑lighting signature. The iX5 LWB uses BMW’s 800‑volt eDrive architecture, a 141 kWh battery pack and is claimed to achieve a CLTC range of more than 1,000 km. The X5 LWB will be offered with internal‑combustion powertrains as well as hybrid and electric options. Launch is planned for early 2027, with the models featuring BMW’s latest interior design language, advanced driver‑assist functions such as “address‑to‑address” and a partnership with Chinese AI firm Momenta for on‑road AI training.
