BMW X1 Long Wheelbase increases rear space via extended wheelbase
The 2026 BMW X1 Long Wheelbase (LWB) features an overall length increase of 116 mm, with 108 mm of that added specifically to the wheelbase. This modification is designed to prioritize rear-seat legroom, a strategy BMW has previously utilized for markets like China.
Reviews indicate that the additional length maintains well-proportioned design aesthetics without creating an awkward silhouette. The exterior retains signature elements such as the kidney grille and sculpted headlamps, while the interior features a modern cabin with a curved display combining a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.7-inch touchscreen.
However, the pursuit of increased rear space has resulted in some feature omissions. Notable trade-offs include the absence of ventilated front seats, a head-up display, and rear window blinds. Additionally, the cabin utilizes harder plastics in lower sections, and the rear seating area is equipped with only one USB-C port.
